Inpulse is a spiritual successor to modern kaizo, designed from the ground up by founding modders in the kaizo scene.

You play as the living flute. Collecting one of seven notes will store them as "ammo" and allow you to move through the air. Each note corresponds to a different movement mechanic, and these mechanics interact with the environment in ways that stack. The order in which you collect the notes will determine how you move, allowing for complex routing through levels and deep combos using very few inputs: move and shoot.

Inpulse is built with learnability in mind, so that the skill ceiling is limited by speed of your thoughts and not the speed of your fingers. Every note is auto-tunned to a note in a music scale, which harmonizes with the music played in-game. This means you can remember successful inputs as literal melodies and write down speedrun strats using music notation.

In addition to audio cues, every note is tied to a color, and like-colors have like-gameplay effects. So, for example, when a blue note hits a purple "ghost note" enemy, you will move as if you had shot a purple note.

For more casual players, the game supports both instant quicksave and quickload as well as level playback, so that anyone can set their own pace regardless of skill level. For streamers and would-be speedrunners, there is also an input display, so learning new strats is as easy as it would be with tool assist.
